WA State Senator Jesse Salomon – Will give us a preview of the 2022 Legislative Session

Jesse Salomon was elected to the Washington State Senate in 2018 after serving for 7 years on the Shoreline City Council. Sen. Salomon brings a deep and varied resume to his role as senator for the 32nd Legislative District particularly as a public defender, a former Shoreline city councilmember and a former child welfare prosecutor. His priorities are to address critical needs in education, promote the creation of livable wage jobs, protect the environment, provide paths to increase the availability of affordable housing and practice fiscal accountability.

A practicing attorney for more than 15 years, Jesse holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Western Washington University. An avid hiker, fisher, snowboarder, and boater, Jesse loves to spend spare time in the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. Jesse lives with his family in his favorite city, Shoreline!

Shoreline School District Superintendent, Dr. Susana Reyes – Will give us a presentation on: Replacement of Expiring Levies Informational Presentation

The Shoreline School District’s two current four-year levies for educational programs, operations and technology will expire at the end of 2022. The Shoreline School District Board of Directors unanimously approved resolutions to place the two four-year replacement levies on the February 8, 2022 special election ballot.

Dr. Susana Reyes was selected as Shoreline School District Superintendent on April 29, 2021. Dr. Reyes began her position on July 1, 2021. Dr. Reyes’ path to Shoreline began in Mexico City, where she was born. After her father’s job at a medical laboratory was cut due to automation, she and her family moved to San Pedro Lagunillas, Nayarit, where her father attempted to make a living as a farmer. The earnings were not enough to provide for the family or for the children to attend school, so her parents ultimately decided to immigrate to the United States in search of a new chapter in their life. They made a home in Wapato, WA, where her parents worked in the fields all over Wapato and the Yakima Valley. Dr. Reyes and her siblings joined them working during spring thinning season and the summer and fall harvest seasons.

After graduating from Wapato High School, she enrolled at Washington State University (WSU). A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Reyes earned several degrees and certifications through WSU. This included bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s degree in education administration, doctorate of educational leadership, as well as principal and superintendent certifications. She also obtained an associate’s degree from Yakima Valley Community College.

After college, Dr. Reyes became a teacher and returned to Wapato to inspire and support students, just as those teachers she had in those same schools growing up had done for her. During her time in Wapato, she served as a bilingual elementary teacher, assistant principal and principal. She then went on to become the assistant superintendent for Pullman Public Schools and then served in the same role for the Mead School District near Spokane. Dr. Reyes’ most recent role before coming to Shoreline was serving as assistant superintendent of operations for the Pasco School District.
